Another international airline has been approved to service the Guyana-North American route and is taking advantage of the soft aviation market to purchase its own plane.

The airline is Eldorado Airlines and Stabroek News has confirmed that the Civil Aviation Department has approved its application to operate between Guyana and North America and to the Caribbean.

This newspaper has been told by a source close to the airline that it expects to conclude an arrangement with an European airline which would allow it to offer connections to Europe to the Guyanese travelling public.

Stabroek News has learnt too that the airline is awaiting permission from the Canadian aviation authorities to approve its application to offer flights to and from Canada.

Eldorado's main investors are overseas-based and local Guyanese who have entered into a strategic relationship with a foreign national.

Eldorado is the second Guyanese owned airline to have been licensed to fly the North American route since Guyana Airways folded at mid-year. Other airlines serving the Guyanese public on this route are BWIA and North American Airlines, both of which are foreign owned.
