The Toronto-based Tigress Cargo Airlines Inc. (Tigress Cargo) will launch a new air cargo service to New York, Trinidad and Guyana from October 1, a release from the company has said, but the service from Georgetown commences on October 3.

The airline will operate an Airbus A-300 freighter aircraft for its southbound and northbound flights.

Tigress Cargo, according to the release, has engaged the Timehri Handling Services Inc. as its sole agent and handler in Guyana and shippers are advised to contact them to make their bookings.

The flights are scheduled once a week to fly from Toronto at 9:00 pm to arrive at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York at 10:15 pm every Monday.

The flight for Trinidad will depart New York at 12:01 am Tuesday to arrive at 4:30 am and the aircraft will stay there for the day and resume operation on Wednesday. The Airbus will then depart Port of Spain for Georgetown at 8:00 am on Wednesdays and arrive in Georgetown at 9:15 am. It will depart Georgetown on Wednesday at 12 noon and arrive in Port of Spain at 1:15 pm. It will leave Port of Spain directly for Toronto at 3:00 pm with arrival scheduled at 9:30 pm.

Tigress Cargo was started after a six-year feasibility study conducted by its director, Dale Maharaj. According to the release, at present cargo bound for the Caribbean is transported in the bellies of passenger aircraft or by truck to Miami then placed on freighter aircraft to the Caribbean. The biggest problem faced is the shipment being taken off the passenger aircraft to accommodate passengers' baggage. For integrators using the Miami route, they have to wait approximately eight days before their shipment is finally placed onto an aircraft to the Caribbean.
