Some 123 charged with traffic offences

Some 66 vehicles including 12 mini buses in Berbice were impounded and 123 cases made out following a campaign by the Police Traffic Department aimed at cracking down on errant drivers.

The police action, which according to a press release from its public relations department was carried out on Saturday and Sunday last on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway resulted in 107 persons being charged with offences which included speeding, overloaded vehicles and dangerous driving.

Meanwhile ranks in the ancient county took the buses which ply the # 63 route into custody after they were said to have contravened the provisions under which their road service licences were issued.
