Oil executive approached to head Beal operation

Beal Aerospace Technologies has approached Gene Ackerman to head its operations in Guyana.

Prime Minister Sam Hinds said that the firm had asked whether the government had any problem with him and he had cleared the issue with the firm.

However, Hinds said that this was two months ago and it might very well be that the reason the company was still looking for a candidate was that Ackerman had accepted another appointment. Ackerman headed the Hunt Oil exploration in the 1990s in the Takutu Basin in Region Nine. The operation folded after there was no discovery of oil.

Beal last week signed an agreement with the government for a US$100 million investment in a spaceport.
