Continued investigations into allegations of a United States visa scam has resulted in charges being laid against the daughter of businesswoman Yvonne Webster, Ann Marie Narine. Webster is also facing similar charges.

Narine, 26, of 160 Durbana Square, Lamaha Gardens and another accused, Cheryl Ramkissoon, 40, of 7 Alexander Street, Kitty, appeared before Chief Magistrate, Paul Fung-A-Fat, yesterday and were placed on $50,000 bail after they denied the offence of obtaining by false pretence.

The allegation against them is that on October 7, 1999, they obtained US$18,000 and $270,000 from Parbattie Looknauth with intent to defraud, by pretending that they were in a position to obtain US visas for two relatives.

According to Corporal Patrice Henry, who was prosecuting, the two aided and abetted Webster and Ravi Ramkirpal in committing the offence on Looknauth. Webster and Ramkirpal had appeared before the chief magistrate on November 11, and were placed on $100,000 bail. That matter is still pending. The defendants will return to court on April 10.
