The Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) is urging the government, the legal system and employers to demonstrate a greater mindfulness to efficiently enforce legislation governing the rights of women.

The GTUC also stated that "notwithstanding the tomes of legislation enacted in the National Assembly to protect the rights of women, ...Guyana remains a male-dominated society in which far too little actual concern is paid to the rights of women."

The GTUC made the call in their message to mark International Womens' Day celebrated Wednesday.

In a press release, the GTUC noted that domestic violence against women continues to be commonplace and sexual harassment and abuse of women remains rampant.
