The Private Sector Commission (PSC) has expressed concern over the delay in concretising the deal between the Government of Guyana and Beal Aerospace Technologies to launch satellites from the north west.

A press release from the Commission on Wednesday said it hopes to soon see some positive movement on the Beal investment project.

"Statements emanating from well-informed public officials give the impression that somewhere in the labyrinth of the decision-making process, a road map is being charted," the Commission said.

The private sector said it has urged the government on more than one occasion to give the application its best consideration and produce an offer that is mutually satisfactory, complying with all the necessary security and environmental requirements.

The PSC pointed out that Guyana needs investors who can bring technology, improvements leading to new skills development and give the country's economy a shot in the arm.

Well-known investors and Beal can be listed in such a category, it said.

"Countries in the hemisphere, notably Costa Rica, benefitted from this model, attracting investment with strong economic spin-offs," the release stated.

The Commission said the country needs to swing away from its agriculture-based support to expand and develop. Moderate growth is not enough to satisfy the demands for good jobs and increased employment, it stated.

Cabinet is expected to soon complete its review of the deal with Beal. Beal has recently questioned the delay in securing a spaceport in this part of the hemisphere.
