Beal deal under Cabinet review -- Heyligar

Cabinet is expected to complete its review of the proposed deal with Beal Aerospace Technologies and head of the negotiating team, Edgar Heyligar, said he would execute whatever mandate Cabinet gives.

Beal Aerospace Technologies yesterday questioned the delays in its ability to secure a spaceport in this part of the hemisphere in what is being perceived as an effort to secure an official Guyana government position on its proposed deal.

The press release spoke of continued frustration in the company's quest to secure the Sombrero Island for its satellite launch site, though it is well publicised that the company is negotiating with the Government of Guyana for a launch facility here and will temporarily launch from Cape Canaveral. The release mentioned the negotiations with the Government of Guyana and Brazil's interest in securing the proposed investment.

Asked what the press release meant, Heyligar said he could not say but confirmed that Cabinet was now reviewing the agreements for the proposed deal and any clarifications needed would have to be provided before the deal was consummated.

Stabroek News understands that Beal had anticipated a deal by yesterday, but Heyligar had two weeks ago indicated that mid-March was a more realistic date.

Heyligar said yesterday that depending on the verdict of Cabinet, it would be decided when the deal could be sealed.
