MPs Deborah Backer and Raphael Trotman are denying a newspaper report that they were present at the wake of Linden 'Blackie' London.

In a release yesterday, the two attorneys-at-law call the allegation of their presence at the wake as reported in the Guyana Chronicle of February 17, "a blatant lie."

They write: "The tenor of the story suggests that [PNC leader Desmond] Hoyte and the PNC members of parliament Mrs Backer and Mr Trotman by their actions, condoned the alleged acts of violence and robbery committed by the deceased Linden London and moreover the so-called desecration of the Golden Arrowhead, a national symbol of Guyana. The article is in this context libellous and constitutes a vicious attack on our characters which we are quite prepared to defend valiantly."

The attorneys-at-law end by saying they "have sought legal advice as to our remedies and options."
