As preparations continue for the upcoming Mashramani celebrations under the theme 'Let Us Mash as One in 2000', entry forms for the decorated/illuminated building competition to be held as part of the occasion are now available.

This competition, according to its coordinator Anthony Durjan, requires buildings to be decorated with flags, buntings, coloured fabric, paintings, banners and similar articles, and if necessary illuminations which would add to the splendour of the celebrations.

The competition which is now an annual affair focuses on heightening the Mash spirit while ensuring that persons pay attention to their immediate environment.

Judging, Durjan said, is expected to be carried out in three categories, which include commercial, semi-commercial and non-commercial buildings and these could be entered under three divisions--decorated, illuminated or decorated and illuminated.

Buildings with showcases may display selected relevant products as part of the competition, such as appropriate technology, textile products, craft, agriculture, and food products.

Decorated buildings will be judged on February 22 and 23 between 0900 to 1700 hrs daily. The illuminated buildings will undergo scrutiny on the same days between 1900 and 2400 hrs.

According to the rules listed on the official entry form, the competition is only open to buildings within Region Four and trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners within each category of each division of the competition.

Only buildings which have been entered in the competition will be adjudicated and assessed.

Entry forms which are available at the Mash Secretariat, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Main Street must be completed and returned by February 18 at 1500 hrs the latest.
