The Guyana Airways (GA) 2000 flight to New York which had been delayed as result of a malfunctioning warning system on Friday, left the country at 0100 hrs yesterday. The aircraft has since returned and left on a second trip to this destination yesterday evening.

On Friday, 40 minutes into its flight to New York, the warning system indicated that something was wrong with the left engine of the aircraft. As a result pilots shut the engine down and returned to the Cheddi Jagan International airport, Timehri. Four tyres on the aircraft blew on landing. A GA 2000 statement on Saturday had said that after landing, a check revealed that the problem was the malfunctioning of the indicator.

A GA 2000 official said the parts had been taken off of the BWIA aircraft bringing them to Georgetown, at Piarco, delaying their arrival here. The parts, including tyres for the aircraft, finally arrived late on Sunday. The official from the company said that as a result of the delay, the scheduled flight to Toronto yesterday was rescheduled to accommodate the passengers of the cancelled flights. Stabroek News understands that in keeping with an agreement between GA 2000 and BWIA, a request was made for a back-up aircraft to transport passengers on Sunday night. However, an official said, GA 2000, was not successful in getting the aircraft.

Passengers originally intended to leave for Toronto on GY 412 at 4.30 pm yesterday will now leave today.

GA 2000 said its operations would be back on schedule from tomorrow.
