Barrel, money transfer business booming for Xmas It's the season of peace and goodwill and extra gifts for Guyanese from their relatives abroad. This is evident in the increase in the number of gift barrels arriving in the country and monies transferred here.

Stabroek News spoke with a number of shipping companies and they confirmed that there had been a significant increase compared to the rest of the year.

Oscar Phillips of Laparkan Shipping, described the increase for this period of the year as "tremendous." Randolph Blair of Solomon's Shipping of Regent Street said there was a great increase in the number of barrels shipped and money transfers.

"Fantastic," was how the operations manager of King Solomon Shipping described the increase in barrels for this period.

Some shipping companies are working way past their closing time to accommodate the increase in traffic.
