THE seven victims of the mass murder in Buxton, East Coast Demerara last week will be buried Tuesday.

Avril Herod, 37, whose brother, Raul Herod, killed two of her four children and five other family members before turning the gun on himself, told the Chronicle yesterday the funeral will definitely be Tuesday.

She said the body of her son Orwin, 15 and the charred remains of her daughter, Jonelle, 10, may be placed together in one casket.

The remains of her mother, Shirley Cole, 56, aunt Patricia `Patsy' Harris, 58, grandmother Angela Herod, 97, and two of the killer's three children - Rondell, 11, and Nandy Herod, 14, will be placed in two other caskets.

Orwin, who died from a perforated lung after he was shot, stumbled from the house into the yard during the shooting but the others were burnt inside after Raul set fire to the building.

The funeral service will be at the St Augustine's Anglican Church, Friendship, East Coast Demerara, prior to burial.

Avril said she has resigned her post at the Securicor (Guyana) Inc. security firm, because her dead brother worked there and it will be painful if she remained.

"I can't bear it...I don't think I have the strength," she said, explaining that her brother's office would have served as a reminder each time she went to collect her wages. Raul was an operations supervisor with the firm.

His sister is appealing to the relevant authorities for a house lot, away from the death scene, to rebuild a home for herself and remaining children.

Raul's nine-year-old son, Jermaine, managed to escape after he was shot in the jaw and is recovering in the Georgetown Hospital. (Please see story on centre pages.) [please note: link provided by LOSP web site]
