THE next round of dialogue between the People's Progressive Party (PPP) and the People's National Congress (PNC), is billed for Friday, August 6.

A press release from the Office of the Facilitator, earlier this week, said that every effort will be made for the teams to meet at least twice weekly.

The parties met on Monday in a preliminary encounter to discuss proposals by both sides for an agreed agenda for the dialogue.

Mr Donald Ramotar and Ms Gail Teixeira represented the PPP/Civic, while the PNC had Mr Lance Carberry and Mr Lloyd Joseph.

According to the release, the PPP/Civic proposed for discussion - Race Relations and Legislation to concretise equal opportunities; a National Development Strategy; a Taxation Policy; Social Safety Net Creation; Poverty Sector Reform; a National Health and Education Policy; Elections Commission and Local Government Elections.

The PNC team members indicated that they proposed to retain the items they had previously identified for dialogue.

The Facilitator's office said that the parties agreed to exchange Summary Statements on the items they proposed for inclusion in an agreed agenda.

As a result of overseas commitments by members of the PNC Dialogue team between June 19 and July 31, 1999, it was agreed that the next meeting of teams in the dialogue process will take place on Friday, August 6.
