PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC), - World batting star Brian Lara played down reports on Friday he had been reported to Trinidad and Tobago police following an altercation with his British girlfriend Lindsay Ward.

The 32-year-old Lara further suggested that the incident with the teenaged model was a private matter and had been settled. It is reported he also said that Ward would join him in denying the allegations.

News reports earlier on Friday alleged an altercation took place at the former West Indies captain’s Port-of-Spain mansion that overlooks the capital around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

It was stated that Ward, 18, made a report to the St. Clair police station, underwent a medical examination, and was advised by police officers not to return to the house.

Reports also said Ward checked into the Trinidad Hilton Hotel, a short distance from Lara’s home, and departed the twin-island republic on Thursday.

Ward, who has been Lara’s companion for the last two years, arrived in Trinidad and Tobago last weekend with the world batting record holder, who is nursing an injury to his left elbow.

Lara sustained the injury when he collided with a fielder during a limited-overs match on West Indies’ recent visit to Sri Lanka. He will be sidelined for at least six weeks and is expected to miss the upcoming away series against Pakistan.
