THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Police Force have committed to work in collaboration on anti-crime measures during the festive season, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said yesterday.

He told his regular post-Cabinet news conference at the Office of the President that the Defence Board at its latest meeting Monday, reviewed its security measures to address those who see the holiday season as another occasion to engage in criminal activities directed at both Guyanese residents and visitors.

He said attention by both the Army and Police would be directed at maintaining security along the transportation mains (roadways) such as Linden, the East Bank, West Coast Demerara, and Georgetown to Rosignol and across the Berbice River.

Luncheon said too that within the major municipalities and particularly at the important areas and sites of congregation, such as car parks, both uniformed and plainclothes Police will be deployed in large numbers to provide an acceptable level of security to those Guyanese frequenting those sites.

"Both the Army and the Police have committed themselves to maintaining visibility and through the efforts of the Police Force and networking with the intelligence community, the random stop and searches and roadblocks would also be used to heighten the presence and the impact of the security services here in this period," he said.
