AN INVESTIGATIVE team set up by the Ministry of Public Works to check on infrastructure destroyed in the Cane Grove flood after the breach in the East Demerara Conservancy dam two weeks ago, has completed its work and a report has been submitted to Public Works Minister, Mr. Anthony Xavier.

The Government has set aside some $5M to do basic remedial works.

The Public Works Ministry's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajay Baksh yesterday said members of the team visited Cane Grove early in the week and inspected roads, dirt tracks and alleyways.

He said the team has submitted recommendations including a list of the remedial works that need to be done and the estimated cost of the repairs.

Meantime, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Mr. Pulandar Kandhi has been named chairman of a committee to investigate losses at Cane Grove.

President Bharrat Jagdeo had announced that the Government was prepared to spend $15M in assistance to Cane Grove residents, but said that amount could be adjusted given the recommendations of the committee.

The committee, as part of its work will have to visit individual homes at Cane Grove.

Kandhi is optimistic that the committee can make recommendations to the Government in three weeks.

In addition, the special investigative panel, chaired by Guyana Sugar Corporation Agriculture Operations Director, Dr. Harold Davis Jr. to determine the cause of the East Demerara Conservancy dam breach, is continuing its work.
