Body of Guyanese woman recovered, later buried

THE body of a Guyanese woman is said to have been recovered and positively identified from among the rubble of what used to be the famous World Trade Center in Manhattan. Hijackers slammed two planes into the twin towers in Manhattan on September 11.

Reports reaching the `Chronicle’ state that the body of overseas-based Pamela Boyce, 43, a former Assistant Vice President of Carr Industries on the 92nd Floor, was recovered and then buried on September 17.

Boyce, the reports added, resided in Brooklyn and was the daughter of Neil Boyce and niece of Teddy Boyce.

Before the news of Boyce surfaced, some 20 Guyanese were reported missing. Now, ten days after the horrific incident, relatives fear the worst.

Those listed on the missing list are:
Farah Khan, 32, of South Ozone Park, Queens, a mother of two, (ages 13 and 11) and wife of Nizam Khan, worked with the Cantor Fitzgerald firm in one of the towers of the WTC; Amarnauth Latchman of Long Island, New York; Ronald Singh and his sister Kamini Singh, who both worked in a restaurant on the 107th floor of the WTC.

Shiv Shankar of Richmond Hill; Anette Dataram, of South Ozone Park, New York who worked as an accountant at the WTC on 107th Floor;

Nizam Hafiz, former Guyana middle order batsman, who also worked on the 107th floor;
Patrick Adams, 63, former Staff Sergeant of the Guyana Defence Force, who worked as a security officer in one of the twin towers;

Charles Gregory John, 44, formerly of David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, who was a security officer at Fuji Bank at the WTC, and was last seen at 09:26 hrs on the 81st Floor; WTC (Tower 2);

Babita Guman, who worked on the 97th Floor, southern tower, WTC;

Sita Sewnarine, who worked on the 97th Floor of the southern tower and was last seen on the ground floor; but has not been heard from since;

Joyce Stanton and Patricia Stanton;

Ricknauth Jaggernauth, who had been employed at NTX Interiors on the 104th Floor;

Shevonne Mentis of 365 Marian Street, Brooklyn, NY and of 167 Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast, Demerara, who worked on the 93rd Floor and was on the telephone to her sister just 15 minutes before the plane hit the building;

Ameena Rasool, a mother of four and formerly of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice, who worked for Marsh and Maskan Insurance Company, 98th Floor, WTC, Tower 2;

Astrid Sohan , aged 32, an employee of Marsh and Mc Kinnon, 95th Floor, WTC, Tower 2;

Hardai Parbhu, 42, originally from Lot 5, Area CC Ogle, East Coast Demerara, and who resided in Bronx for the past ten years;

Kris Romeo Bishundat, 23, Navy Information Systems Technician, who is of Guyanese parentage, was stationed at the Pentagon when one of four hijacked planes smashed into it. He resided in Maryland.

Vanavah Thompson, who worked with for ABM and was assigned to Marsh USA.

Rudy Bacchus, 48, a stockbroker. He was said to be attending a meeting in the famous `Windows on the World’ restaurant, which was located on the 107th Floor in the north tower.

Latest reports from the U.S. list 5,600 persons still missing from the WTC and Pentagon attacks.

Of that number, 5,422 were reported to be at the World Trade Center. Almost 2,000 of them were from more than 60 countries.

However, noticeably absent from the breakdown is Guyana, although reports coming out of New York have stated that of all the Caribbean countries Guyana heads the death toll list.

The Reuters report listed Antigua/Barbuda as having three missing; Bahamas - 1:Belgium -1; Jamaica -7; St. Lucia -1; Trinidad/ Tobago - 4 and neighbouring Venezuela - 3.
