`SWEET Talk Santa This Christmas' is the Beharry Group of Companies latest promotion for `Chico', its brand name product.

The venture was officially launched Monday, offering all consumers an opportunity to win big prizes over the holiday season.

The competition was opened with the first Santa Claus appearance this year at a simple ceremony in the Savannah Suite of Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown.

A director, Mr Anand Beharry said his firm usually puts the focus on retailers at this time but, this year, their customers countrywide will get a chance to cop hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of prizes.

Grand prize winners will be announced on December 20.

The rivalry, involving both children and adults, entails making up a "sweet talk" line using `Chico' and entries must be deposited in specially placed boxes across the country.

Ten product wrappers must be attached to each entry form and individuals can enter several times but not after December 19.

Beharry said 100 weekly prizes will be awarded during televised drawings on Guyana Television and Broadcasting Company (GTV) Channel 11 every Monday at 18:45 hrs (6:45 p.m.) until the grand draw.

The weekly awards would include `Chico' caps, t-shirts and sweets hampers while grand prize winners would get a home theatre, a suite, a recliner and a computer.

Beharry said they have invested a lot of money in making their products the best in Guyana and the Caribbean and recently added a tattoo `Chico' gum to their line.

Sugar Confectioner, Mr Tony Fitzsimmon disclosed that work on the project has been ongoing for the past 18 months, during which 12 new flavours were introduced to the market.

Public response to the additions was slow at first but has since improved significantly.

Meantime, the old flavours were strengthened so they would last longer, the expert said. (AMANDA WILSON)
