Food for the Poor donates $13M flood relief

FOOD for the Poor (Guyana) Fund has donated another $5M worth of supplies for distribution to flood victims by the National Relief Council (NRC).

A Press release said, in its continual efforts to help those in need, the donation consisted of rice, canned foodstuff, vegetables, clothing, footwear and medication.

The donor pledged to continue contributing by handing over more items valued $1,930,370 to the Civil Defence Commission.

According to the release, to date $13,448,099 in largess has been distributed to organisations and committees in Linden, Upper Demerara River; Mahaica, East Coast Demerara and Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice, for people affected by the countrywide flooding.

The statement said Food for the Poor "stands firm in its commitment to bring aid and relief to those in need and will continue to supply food and other items towards reducing the impact of the flood on those in affected areas."
