GUYANESE turned out in their hundreds Wednesday afternoon to participate in the Reconciliation Rally held at Parliament Buildings compound where there were prayers and messages from religious organisations and political parties.

The event, which was organised by the Guyana Council of Churches, (GCC) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), had the objective of helping Guyanese through prayers and a spirit of reconciliation to resolve the present political situation facing the country.

There was an urgent call for citizens especially politicians to reconcile their differences, and to live in peace and harmony with each other.

Businessman Mr. David Yhann, representing the NGO Forum, expressed the hope that after the event, persons would be encouraged to make a difference, to forgive others, and to try to live in unity with others.

"Forgive...and seek to reconcile and build better relations," he advised.

He added that forgiveness, reconciliation and healing "begin at a personal level to promote national building".

Representatives from the Baha'is of Guyana, the Central Islamic Organisation (CIOG), the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, and the Christian church read messages and prayers from various scriptures.

Among dignitaries present at the Rally were President Bharrat Jagdeo, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, and City Mayor Hamilton Greene.
