PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo and Cabinet Ministers have signed the pledge to make each of their Ministries a `Race-Free Zone'. This was part of the Rights of Children (ROC) activities for `World Day to Eliminate Racism' observed yesterday.

The signing, witnessed by members of the Rights of Children organisation, took place in the Cabinet Room of the Office of the President during a break in the weekly Cabinet meeting.

Members of the ROC have planned a week of activities to promote the elimination of racism. According to a release from the organisation, the painting of a mural on Sunday, March 19, launched the week of activities.

The mural is located on a section of the Sea Wall in the vicinity of Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara. It depicts a scene of tropical fish and bears the slogan, "If fish can do it, why can't we...live together".

The organisation plans to release a "Race-Free Zone" postage stamp later this week. Today, executive members of Guyana Trade Union Congress (GTUC) will sign the Race-Free pledge.

ROC's week of activities will end with a "ROC-A-Thon Against Racism". This event takes the form of a march from the Bank of Guyana to the Sea Wall where a cultural programme will unfold. The public is invited.
