FORMER co-host of the Guyana Television Broadcasting Company (GTV) breakfast programme, `Guyana Today', Ms Donna Shortt-Gill is the new Executive Director of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG).

Her appointment follows the resignation of Ms Colette McDermott to take up a position with the Iwokrama International Centre and a last-minute change of plans due to unforeseen circumstances affecting Ms Ryhann Shah who was named as the latter's successor.

THAG President Mr Shaun McGrath said Shah, who had accepted the position and already begun to familiarise herself with how the association was run, had duly apologised for any inconvenience she may have caused.

A THAG press statement said Shortt-Gill comes to the association with media, communications and administrative skills, the latter gained through working in London where she resided before remigrating in 1992.

She is quoted as saying that working with THAG would provide her with a wonderful opportunity to put her communications skills to work and to further her primary objective of returning home.

"Like many returning Guyanese, I want to help develop Guyana and this position with THAG puts me in the forefront of helping to develop the tourist industry here", she said.

Among her duties, McGrath said, will be the overall day to day running of the association which he describes as "a very important job" particularly when it comes to lobbying for the sector, at home or abroad.

The THAG Executive Director is also required to sit on such boards as the National Parks Commission and the Tourism Advisory Board when it is reconstituted.
