AN offer by West Indies cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul to compensate a policeman he shot in error on June 8, will not stop an investigation by police.

Yesterday, Guyana’s Police Commissioner Laurie Lewis said an offer had been made to the constable, but that had nothing to do with him, he said.

“The offer has nothing to do with us. We are not ducking this case. There have been suggestions that we will duck the case because Chanderpaul is this great batsman, but we won’t be ducking this. Of that you could be sure.

“We will do a thorough investigation, write a report and pass it on to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will say whether or not we charge or don’t charge,” he said.

Lewis said he couldnot disclose how much Chanderpaul had offered the policeman, howeverthe SUN understands that the cricketer offeredGUY $500 000. But he asked for $1 million instead.
