Long letters
Stabroek News
December 11, 2001

Dear Editor,

I enjoy reading Stabroek News and my favourite part is the letters to the editor. However, sometimes when I find horrendously long letters I get turned off. I am sure most readers appreciate reasonably long letters, but letters such as the ones often written by Frederick Kissoon are not only too long, but extremely repetitive. Doesn't Stabroek News have a limit regarding the length of letters, or how many times one individual should/can contribute on the same topic? Mr Kissoon spends a paragraph sending greetings to friends in France.

Does Kissoon write on behalf of the University of Guyana? The institution's name often appears below his name.

Yours faithfully,

(Name and address provided)

Editor's note

The problem of long letters has been a perennial one. We have tried to use our discretion but it has not been easy to draw the line. We have always had a very liberal attitude to publishing letters, even when there is some degree of repetition and excessive length.

Mr Kissoon is we imagine merely indicating that he works at the university.
