When did UG accept creation and evolution as valid theories?

Dear Editor,

In the recent newspaper correspondence about evolution and creationism, Mr Alfred Bhulai of the University of Guyana declared that "The Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Guyana has accepted creation and evolution as two separate and equally valid scientific theories."

This alleged declaration by the Faculty of Natural Sciences is grotesque and astonishing. Would Mr Bhulai or a spokesperson for the faculty say at what time and by whom was this grotesquerie declared.

This information would be welcomed by a large numbers of students as well as those who are concerned about the image of the university and its standards.

Yours faithfully,

Herman Gomes

Editor's note

In his letter [ please note: link provided by LOSP web site ] of 13.7.01 Mr Bhulai states that this position was adopted by the Faculty of Natural Sciences "in advance of a faculty retreat in October 1998."
